Not too long ago, I was a teenager and I had a really hard time balancing everything that was on my plate. I had really poor time management skills. Teens and Time Management: Parents’ Guide to Helping Your Teen Succeed by Leslie Josel is a book that takes parents a step-by-step through the basics of teaching their kids time management skills. If only I was taught Time Management skills when I was a teenager. I probably could have saved myself many late nights of rushing to finish essays and projects that were due the next day.
About the Book:
In this book, you’ll learn:
- The FIVE mindsets parents need to start their teen on the journey of time management awareness.
- How to create a “Personal Homework Profile” to better understand how your teen tackles homework.
- How to help your teen create a time sense and develop “future awareness”.
- How to pick an appropriate paper or electronic academic planner and how to properly plan their time.
- How to create a peaceful and calm morning routine to get your teen out the door.
- Case studies, useful resources, Leslie’s straight talk and much, much more!
My kids aren’t teenagers just yet but now I can be prepared for those years ahead. I can even take some of the skills taught in this book and apply them to my own life. MY favorite chapter from the book is Chapter 6: Is there a “Cure” for Procrastination? Procrastination is my #1 problem that I deal with every single day. And this chapter has opened my eyes to seeing that my procrastination is brought on by feeling overwhelmed and anxiety when I start something. I used this chapter to help myself when I start to feel that procrastination creeping up on me. I take that bit overwhelming task and break it into smaller tasks so that it doesn’t seem so big. And now I know what to do when my own children begin to have those same problems. That’s just one example of how this books helps teach Time Management Skills.
Chapter 8: How Can I manage the Technology Distractions? is a great resource. It provides ways to keep your teenagers focused on school work instead of Social Media Distractions. I already have a problem with my 7 year old. As soon as she comes home the first thing she wants to do is get on Youtube and watch her favorite gamers. By using this chapter I was able to disable her internet using the provided resources. This way she can focus on more important things like her homework.
I really think tat anyone with a distracted teenager can be helped by reading this book. Try it out and see for yourself!
